The Governors determine the aims and philosophies of the school and work in a partnership with staff and parents/guardians. The day to day management remains the responsibility of the Head Teacher and parents/guardians are encouraged to share any questions they might have with members of the teaching staff.  The Governors have confidence that most questions can be answered by the Head Teacher but in situations where broader policy is an issue, reference may be made to the Governors either through the Chair of the Governing Body or through the clerk to the governors who may be contacted via the school office.

The Governors' role is to give direction, to determine broad policy and to be supportive of all those who work on their behalf to provide the caring, challenging and exciting learning environment that is Victoria Primary School. The Governors have two sub committees, the School Improvement Committee and the Finance and General Purposes Committee. The School Improvement Committee is chaired by Mrs Barbara Potter and works on behalf of the Governing Body to:

  • ensure the key function of the school is to improve learning, raise standards and promote inclusion
  • Be assured the school maintains and delivers a broad and balanced curriculum in keeping with the aims of the school and the requirements of the National Curriculum and the wider school curriculum
  • Ensure high quality teaching for all pupils

The Finance and General Purposes Committee is chaired by Ms Sandra Firm and works on behalf of the Governing Body to:

  • Assist the Governing Body in fulfilling its responsibilities in directing the management of the School budget and of matters relating to the school premises
  • To assist the Governing Body in fulfilling its responsibilities for all staff employed in the school.
